- The rate of denial during the campaign against polio remains constant challenge.
Karachi: The Emergency Business Center (EOC) reported on Monday that the rate of refusal of vaccination was increased in the karachi, with at least 37,711 parents lowering the polio vaccine in May.
This marks an increase in cases of refusal as parents in the port city continue to reduce the vaccination of their children against polio.
In May, the East region recorded the highest number of refusals, with 9,433 parents leaving. District Central had 7,141 refusals, while Kemari saw 7,111 parents refusing the vaccine.
In addition, at least 3,453 parents in the Korangi area and 4,606 in Malir refused vaccination. The EOC also noted that 3,145 parents from the South and 2,922 from the West region refused vaccination in May.
In April, 37,360 parents refused vaccination against polio, according to EOC.
The Center said: “The rate of denial during the campaign against polio remains a constant challenge. Eliminating polio requires continuous support from parents.”
Particular attention is paid to trade union councils at risk for polio. Misunderstandings and lack of awareness are recognized as the main reasons for the refusal of the vaccine.
Last month, the Pakistani Postgraduate Program officially launched the third campaign of national immunization (NIDS) in an attempt to make Pakistan a nation without polio.
Polio is an extremely infectious disease caused by polio, which mainly affects children under five years of age. It can invade the nervous system, leading to paralysis or even death. Although there is no cure for polio, vaccination is the most effective way to protect children from this disease.
