  • Over 400,000 trained workers in polio to participate in the campaign.
  • Children take an additional dose of vitamin a.
  • NEOC urges parents to ensure that every child receives falls of polio.

The National Emergency Business Center (NEOC) has announced that a national campaign against polio will take place from October 13th to October 19th to vaccinate more than 45 million children under five years over the disease.

According to NEOC, children will also receive an additional dose of vitamin A during the campaign to help enhance their immunity.

More than 400,000 trained polio workers will participate in the weekly movement throughout the country to ensure that each eligible child receives the oral polio (OPV) vaccine.

The provincial data shared by NEOC show that in Punjab, over 23 million children under five will be vaccinated, while Sindh will target more than 10.6 million children. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, about 7.2 million children will be covered and in the bait, over 2.6 million will receive the vaccine.

In Islamabad, more than 460,000 children will be given polio, while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir more than 760,000 children will be vaccinated. At Gilgit-Baltistan, the campaign aims to reach more than 280,000 children.

NEOC urged all parents and carers to ensure that each child under five receives the falls of polio during the national campaign. He also addressed parents to complete the usual immunization of their children to protect them from polio and other diseases that can be prevented.

The total number of polio cases in the country for 2025 has jumped to 29, with two cases reported on September 29 by Sindh.

Pakistan is one of the two politicians around the world, along with Afghanistan. The country was close to eliminating the disease that causes 2021 after a significant decline in the number of cases, until the recent rise in cases.

Last year, Pakistan reported a total of 74 cases of polio. Of these, 27 was from Balochistan, 23 by Sindh, 22 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and each of Punjab and Islamabad.

Polio is a paralyzed disease without treatment and the completion of the usual vaccination for all children under five years of age provides only high immunity against this terrible disease.
