Mohammad Hafeez points to new chairman for early exit from PCB

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez attributes his exit from the PCB after just two months to the appointment of a new chairman.

Despite his initial enthusiasm for the role of Director of Cricket, Hafeez expressed his disappointment that his originally set four-year tenure was cut short due to the change in leadership.

“I always prioritize and represent Pakistan with dignity and pride. I accepted the new role as PCB Director with great passion to bring positive reforms but unfortunately my fixed term which was offered by PCB for 4 years was interrupted for 2 months due to the new presidency. Best wishes for the future of Pakistan cricket,” Hafeez wrote on social media platform X.

Hafeez pledged to reveal both cricketing and non-cricketing details that may have contributed to underperformance during his short tenure.

“As always, I primarily take responsibility and hold myself accountable for all my performances in my allotted time and will accordingly disclose all cricketing and other amateur non-cricketing events involving poor performances,” he added.

I have always prioritized and represented Pakistan with dignity and pride. I accepted the new role as pcb Director with great passion to bring about positive reforms but unfortunately my fixed tenure offered by @TheRealPCB for 4 years it was cut off for 2 months in the account…

In an official statement on Thursday, the PCB expressed its sincere appreciation for Hafeez’s invaluable contribution, acknowledging his role as Manager and his positive impact on the players.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Hafeez, Director of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team, for his invaluable contribution,” the statement said.

Despite the split, the PCB conveyed its best wishes to Hafeez for his future endeavours, wishing him continued success and luck in his endeavours.

“Hafeez’s passion for the game has inspired the players and his guidance during the Australia and New Zealand tour has been invaluable. The PCB wishes Hafeez the best of luck and success in his future endeavours,” the statement added.

Hafeez, a former Test captain, boasts an impressive cricket career, having represented Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is. Throughout his international career, Hafeez has amassed 12,780 runs and secured 253 wickets, leaving a lasting impact on the cricketing landscape.

Under Hafeez’s tenure as manager, Pakistan suffered a 3-0 defeat in the recent Test tour of Australia, and additionally suffered a 4-1 loss in the five-match T20 series in New Zealand.
