South African middle-order batsman David Miller and Pacers Gerald have been ruled out of the white-ball series against Pakistan due to their injuries, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Thursday.

The CSA said Miller, who was to lead South Africa in the three-match T20I series, scheduled to be played from October 28 to November 1 in Rawalpindi and Lahore, suffered a grade 1 right hamstring strain, which was diagnosed on Wednesday after scans.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old pacer Coetzee has been ruled out of the ODI and T20I series against Pakistan due to a pectoral muscle injury, which he sustained during South Africa’s one-off T20I match against Namibia earlier this month.

“The South African Men’s Selection Committee today confirmed that Proteas Men’s stand-in T20 International (T20I) captain David Miller and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee have been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan,” CSA said in a statement.

“Miller, who was due to lead the T20I side in the three-match series from October 28 to November 1, was ruled out after scans on Wednesday confirmed he had suffered a grade 1 right hamstring strain during training in preparation for the tour. A phased rehabilitation program will now begin.

“Coetzee has been ruled out of both the T20I series and the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, scheduled from November 04 to 8, due to a pectoral muscle injury.

“The 25-year-old was injured while bowling during the one-off T20I against Namibia in Windhoek earlier this month.

“Subsequent scans revealed the extent of the injury and following specialist consultation, a structured rehabilitation program was initiated under the supervision of the Cricket South Africa High Performance and Momentum Multiply Titans medical teams.”

In light of the twin injury setbacks, South Africa have included uncapped Matthew Breetzke and Tony de Zorzi in their T20I squad for the Pakistan series, with Donovan Ferreira taking over the captaincy in Miller’s absence.

While Ottneil Baartman, who has represented South Africa in four ODIs and 12 T20Is, has been named as Coetzee’s replacement in their ODI squad.

“Batters Matthew Breetzke (Warriors) and uncapped Tony de Zorzi have been added to the T20I squad, while Titans batsman Donovan Ferreira will captain the side,” the CSA statement added.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins paceman Ottneil Baartman has been named as Coetzee’s replacement in the ODI squad.
