  • EX-PM’s lawyer says the prosecution can submit the charges.
  • Najib “no longer has” he has a sword of Damocles hanging over his head.
  • He still waits for a verdict in the biggest trial he is facing.

Kuala Lumpur: The Supreme Court of Malaysia has released, but has not been acquitted, former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been imprisoned on charges of money laundering in a long -standing case involving a former 1mm Fund of 1mm.

Najib has been in prison since August 2022, having been found guilty of corruption and money laundering for money on capital, a former 1MDB subsidiary of Malaysia and the US, say that about $ 4.5 billion was stolen.

It also faces three distinct charges for money laundering over 27 million Ringgit ($ 6.4 million) allegedly underdeveloped by SRC.

The case had repeatedly stopped in 2019 due to procedural delays, prompting the Supreme Court of Kuala Lumpur to grant Najib’s request for discharge that was not equivalent to discharge (DNAA) on Friday, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said.

Muhammad Shafee said the decision was fair, as the criminal prosecution remained free to return the charges as soon as they were ready to move on.

“So (Najib) he is not waiting for or as they say, he no longer has Damoklou’s sword hanging over his head,” he said.

The Attorney General’s office did not respond immediately to a request for comments.

Friday’s decision was the second time they have been submitted to 1MDB filed against Najib. Last year, one court allowed another DNAA request for procedural delays in corruption against the former prime minister and the former head of the country’s treasure.

In 2023, he was also acquitted with separate categories of violations with a government control of 1MDB.

Najib is still waiting for a verdict in the biggest trial facing the 1MDB scandal, with the court expected to hear closing arguments in October.

He has denied all the accusations he brought against him.

Najib is also offered to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest and tried to force the government to confirm the existence of a royal class that says it would allow him to do so.
