- Lescure’s nomination is a nod to the left.
- Just right, hard left is threatened to reduce the government.
- France did not stay in the election.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu called Roland Lescure, a close ally of President Emmanuel Macron, as finance minister in a new government that political opponents were threatening to overturn quickly if they failed to break with Macron’s policies.
Lescure, who was quick to gather behind Macron when he first ran for the presidency in 2017, spent some time in the Socialist Party at the beginning of his career. While his candidacy was widely regarded as a nod to the left in front of further sensitive budget negotiations, the legislators on the left were not impressed.
Budget talks have become increasingly full, demanding sensitive compromises between three ideologically opposed blocs of Macron’s sovereignty, the domination of the Macron minority, the extremely right and the left-which can reduce the government of minorities.
Legislators from the hard leftist party of France said that a move without confidence would be deposited immediately. The first major test for Lecornu, 39, Macron’s fifth prime minister in two years, will be a speech on Tuesday that describes his policy program.
Budget
Lecornu’s two predecessors, Francois Bayrou and Michel Barnier, went down from parliament on efforts to enhance France’s public spending at a time when rating agencies and investors are closely monitoring the country’s fiscal deficit, in the largest in the euro area.
Lecornu said he appreciated calls for a break from the last eight years under Macron’s leadership. His political opponents said Macron’s last cabinet represented the continuation.
“We have managed clearly to the prime minister: it is either a break with the past or a vote without trust.
Hard -core legislator Eric Coquerel wrote on X: “For the third time since the July 2024 elections, Emmanuel Macron again imposes a government of losers and policies who have been rejected in the electoral box.”
Le Marine returns to government
Former Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who supervised France’s “whatever costs” in the Covid -9 pandemic, was appointed Minister of Defense. It will now shape French thought on how Europe should boost European security,
Several key ministers remained in their positions, including Jean-Noel Barrot at the Foreign Ministry, Bruno Retailleau and Gerald Darmanin in justice.
Underlining the fragility of the government, Retailleau, conservative, expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of portfolios between the alliance’s ruling partners and called on an emergency meeting on Monday.
France, who had not suffered the legislators, reiterated their appeal for presidential elections – something Macron excluded.
Flirting with socialists
The 58-year-old Lescure will face a harsh act of balancing: ensuring either the support or abstinence from the Socialists, while maintaining the legacy of Macron’s pre-operations and the preservation of conservatives and liberals on board.
Franco-Canadian and former Natixis Asset Management official should also be aware of the sensitivities of the distant right, given their readiness to try to overturn the government once again.
To win the Socialists, Lecornu proposed a wealth tax that required much from the left and was ruled out using special powers to promote the budget through parliament without vote. They have so far called his prophecies inadequate.
“Without a change in politics, the Socialists will vote against the government,” said Socialist Party Secretary General Pierre Jouvet on BFM TV.
