Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has just paid a heartfelt tribute to late bassist Sam Rivers.

On Saturday, the nu metal band released a joint statement announcing that Rivers had died at the age of 48, without disclosing the cause of death.

Via his official Instagram, Durst posted an eight-minute video in which he reflected on his longtime friendship with Rivers.

“Sam Rivers, the legend, really. Such a gifted, incredibly sweet and wonderful man,” she began.

He then recalled how he discovered the musician when he saw Rivers “killing it on bass” while playing with another band in Jacksonville, Florida in the 1990s.

“I saw Sam play and I was excited,” the 55-year-old recalls fondly.

“He was also playing a five-string bass, I’d never seen anyone use a five-string bass. It was so soft and good and it stood out. I couldn’t hear anything but Sam, everything was gone but his gift,” Durst said.

THE My way The rocker also revealed in the video that he cried “gallons of tears” over the loss of Rivers.

“It’s so tragic that he’s not here right now, and I’ve shed gallons and gallons of tears since yesterday,” Durst said emotionally.

He continued, “And I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, Sam’s a legend, you know? He did it, he lived it’, we’ve been rocking the pitches together, we’ve traveled the world together, we’ve shared so many moments together and I know that wherever Sam is right now, he’s smiling and feeling, ‘Man, I did it’. And man, he did it.”

“I’m super, super grateful and miss him so much already. All the support and love I’ve seen out there online is overwhelming, he really made an impact on the world. His music and his gift is what will keep on giving. I just love him so much,” concluded Fred Durst.
