Karachi:
The President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, while strongly condemning the recent decision of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which deprives Karachi consumers for significant relief to an invoice adjustment of tariffs, That both nepra and K -electric (KE) failed to provide promising benefits to consumers.
He said Nepra’s recent announcement on the adjustment of fuel prices for November revealed a simple reduction of Rs1.23 per unit. “Although this reduction should be regarded as one step in the right direction. .
He added: “What concerns even more is the fact that despite the cut of invoices calculated at RS5.0029 per unit, only Rs1.23 for K-Electric Consumer Consumer was reduced.”
He said that both Nepra and Ke have failed to support their commitment to provide consumers with significant relief during today’s difficult times.
“Karachi’s consumers, who have already been burdened by high costs of living and business, are now further victimized by this injustice. Nepra, who is responsible for protecting the rights of electricity consumers, has been reduced by the order her, not ensuring that the full benefit is transmitted to consumers.
While expressing her concern about the lack of transparency in the regulatory process, Bilwani said it was very annoying that Nepra, after a thorough analysis, failed to impose a complete reduction in duties.
“K-Electric’s failure to provide the full benefit of RS5,444 billion, which could relieve people’s financial burden is nothing less than financial treason,” he noted.
He called on both Nepra and KE to take immediate corrective action and to ensure that the full benefit of customizing duties was transferred to consumers without further delay.
He also called for greater accountability than both organizations to ensure that consumer rights were protected, especially in current provocative economic conditions.
“We ask Nepra and K-Electric not only to correct this supervision but also to ensure that future adjustments are transparent, fair and benefit people immediately.”
Meanwhile, he referred to the disagreement expressed by Nepra (Tariff) members Mathar Niaz Rana, detached by a member (technician) Rafiq Sheikh, who had opposed the limited relief provided to KE consumers.
In his disagreement, Rana argued that consumers should have been fully granted the benefits of adapting November, which is a reduction in RS5.0029 per unit, which would have led to a direct benefit of more than RS7,215 billions.
“KCCI fully supports the disagreement of Mathar Niaz Rana. Its position represents the voice of Karachi’s and consumers’ business community, who are unfairly aggravating,” he said, adding that RS8.7 billion are still being examined by power and power still be finalized. From now on, Nepra has set the decision on waiting, “which is truly unusual,” he noted.
