John Cena is preparing for his final WWE appearance

John Cena, one of WWE’s most iconic superstars and 17-time World Champion, is set to bring the curtain down on his storied career in the ring later today as he headlines Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capital One Arena.

The final chapter of Cena’s wrestling journey spanning over two decades will find him facing Gunther, who earned the right to face the WWE great by winning the Last Time Is Now tournament. The match was the centerpiece of Cena’s farewell tour and is widely regarded as one of the most significant moments in sports entertainment this year.

In the days leading up to the event, speculation surrounded the placement of Cena’s retirement match on the card. However, the WWE icon put all rumors to rest during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, confirming that his showdown with Gunther will close out the night.

“That’s Pizzagate, man,” Cena said when asked about the chatter. “I was on Jimmy Kimmel and I said I’m finishing the show. I usually go to bed early, but I’m going to have to stay up late for this. We’re down from this point.”

Cena also made it clear that this match would mark the final end of his in-ring career, leaving no room for future returns.

“That’s it. I’m not going back,” he said. “December 13th is my last match in the ring. WrestleManias will come and go and I won’t be active.”

The event will also showcase WWE’s next generation, with rising stars from the NXT brand prominently featured on the card – a decision that Cena himself pushed for, wanting his final night to shine a light on the company’s future.

Saturday Night’s Main Event will air exclusively on the Peacock in the United States and will be broadcast internationally as fans around the world prepare to say goodbye to one of wrestling’s greatest performers.
