Israeli officials have told the Trump administration that they do not want to wait two weeks for Iran to reach an agreement to disassemble the basic parts of its nuclear program, and Israel could act alone before the deadline, two sources said in the midst of a report.
The two sources familiar with the issue said Israel announced their concerns to Trump administration officials on Thursday in what they described as a tense phone call.
Israeli officials said they did not want to wait for the two weeks presented by US President Donald Trump on Thursday as a deadline to decide whether the US would participate in the Israeli-Jran war, said sources, who spoke. Israeli call participants included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and military leader Eyal Zamir, according to a security source.
The Israelis believe they have a limited window of opportunity to move against the deeply buried area in Fordow, the jewelry of the Iranian nuclear program, sources said. The United States is the only country with bombs that cause bombs strong enough to reach the facility, which has dug on a mountain side.
Reuters said on Saturday that the United States is carrying B-2 bombers on the island of Guam, Pacific, reinforcing the possibility that the US could be involved in an attack immediately. The B-2 may be equipped to carry America’s huge penetrating GBU-57, designed to destroy the goals deep underground, such as that of Fordow.
A person in Washington familiar with the issue said Israel has notified to the US government that he believes the Trump window for up to two weeks is very high and that more urgent action is required. The person did not say whether the Israelis made this point during the high -level call.
During the call, Vice President JD Vance pushed back, saying that the United States should not be directly involved and indicate that the Israelis was going to pull the country at war, sources said. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth also participated in the call, a security source said. Reuters was unable to determine who else was involved in the call.
The Jerusalem Post reported earlier that a phone call had been made on Thursday.
The prospect of an American strike against Iran has exposed sections to the coalition of supporters who brought Trump to power, with some prominent members of his base urging him not to get involved in the country in a new Middle East war.
Vance often criticizes US involvement in clashes, including Iraq and Afghanistan, but recently defended Trump against democratic critics that are urging the administration to stay out of Iran’s conflict.
Other Republicans, including Trump Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, said they hope Trump would help Israel destroy the Iranian nuclear program.
Trump, who struggled for a promise to keep the US out of what is called “stupid” foreign wars, has appeared in a collision from time to time as to join the Israeli attack on Iran or focuses on the diplomatic efforts to end it. But his rhetoric has become increasingly aggressive in Iran in recent days.
Iran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
The White House refused to comment on this story.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comments. Iran’s mission to the United Nations also did not respond immediately.
Israeli strike in Fordow is increasing possible
In public, Netanyahu did not exclude Israel to attack Fordow alone, although officials did not give details of how it would be achieved.
Four sources said it is now increasingly likely that the country will launch a solo military operation. Israeli superiority of air in much of Iran makes a business more feasible, although it is still dangerous, he said two of the sources.
The Israelis feel they have the dynamic and have limited time given the cost of war, one source added.
“I don’t see them waiting much more,” the source said.
It is not clear whether such a business will include bombings, ground forces or both. Two of the sources said that instead of trying to destroy the entire website, Israel could do significant damage to it.
This could mean focusing on the destruction of those on the site and not on the site itself, said one of the sources, which refuses to process.
Some analysts have assumed that Israel could use special forces to enter Fordow and blast it from within.
Another scenario examined, according to a source familiar with the issue, would be to leave a series of ammunition in rapid succession in an attempt to violate the fortified place, similar to how the Israeli army killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nas.
Such a strike could be followed by an invasion of special forces, the source said.
It is not clear that Israel has ammunition strong enough to penetrate the fortified facility. It is widely believed that in order to have a great chance of success, US intervention would need.
But even with the mass fire brigade of a common American-Israeli military action, military and nuclear experts believe that a military operation will probably temporarily restore a program that western fears have already been intended to produce bombers one day.
