  • Ballistic missiles launched in response to recent terrorist activities.
  • The recent spate of violence includes a bombing near the IRGC leader’s tomb.
  • The IRGC claimed to have destroyed Mossad’s spy headquarters in Iraq.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have launched targeted missile attacks on alleged “terrorist” targets in Iraq and Syria, sparking heightened tensions in the region.

According to reports, the IRGC aimed to dismantle key strongholds of anti-Iranian elements, including an “espionage headquarters” and a concentration of terrorist groups in Arbil, the capital of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.

In response to recent terrorist activities, particularly the tragic suicide bombing near the tomb of IRGC General Qasem Soleimani in Kerman, the Guards fired ballistic missiles at gathering sites in Syria. These reprisals were framed in response to the crimes committed by terrorist groups, which led to the unjust martyrdom of Iranian citizens in Kerman and Rask.

The United States condemned Iran’s actions, with State Department spokesman Matthew Miller saying: “The United States strongly condemns Iran’s attacks in Erbil today and extends its condolences to the families of those killed. We oppose Iran’s reckless missile attacks, which undermine the stability of Iraq. “

The latest spate of violence includes a suicide attack near the tomb of General Soleimani, claimed by the Islamic State group, that killed around 90 people. Iran’s Intelligence Ministry revealed that one of the suicide bombers was a Tajik national, while the identity of the other remains unknown.

In another incident, at least 11 Iranian policemen were killed in an attack by jihadists on a police station in Rask, located in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan. The group responsible, Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), was created in 2012 and is blacklisted by Iran as a “terrorist” organization.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the IRGC claimed to have struck a purported Israeli target, claiming the destruction of Mossad’s spy headquarters in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. According to IRGC statements, the targeted headquarters played a central role in the development of espionage operations and the planning of terrorist acts in the region.
