The investigation into the death of Mir Raza Ali has produced no major breakthrough, with police awaiting further clarification and verification of key points in the chemical analysis reports (Geo News).

The team has been testing the acoustics of the scene. Investigators visited the location where Ali’s body was found late at night and fired two shots at the selected time to assess how far the sound of gunfire would carry, according to sources. They questioned people at a nearby mosque, a nursery and other locations to establish whether shots were heard there on the night of July 28.

That test addresses a specific gap. If Ali was shot where he was found, someone should have heard it; if nobody did, he was likely killed elsewhere and moved — a question the original investigation never put, and which matters because the crime scene was not preserved.

CCTV footage from the night of July 28-29 has also emerged, showing a person some distance from where the body was found at around 4:50am. A police mobile appears in the footage, with an officer at the location at about 5:45am.

The forensic picture already established is of a violent death. The second post-mortem, conducted after exhumation on a court order, found Ali was shot from behind, with two gunshot holes in his shirt and extensive ante-mortem injuries including fractured ribs and injuries to the head, face and jaw. A chemical examination found acid particles and gunshot residue on the shirt, recorded that efforts had been made to conceal his identity, and found no fingerprints on his hands.

A judicial magistrate has given investigators until August 24 to complete the inquiry. Ali’s phone and smartwatch have been sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency in Lahore after the family objected to the NCCIA examining them.

Ali, 25, an IBA graduate, was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar a day after going missing on July 28. His father has maintained throughout that he was murdered. Three officials have been removed or suspended over the handling of the case. No arrests have been reported and no suspect has been named.
