- President Trump exercises invoices as a wide policy tool.
- We will continue to move together and capture new markets: Goyal
- Analysts warn that 50% of the duty is similar to a commercial embargo.
India will not “succumb” and instead will focus on arresting new markets, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said in its first public observations, as Washington has imposed abrupt prices on Indian goods.
50% of contributions to many Indian imports to the United States came into force this week as a punishment for the huge markets of the Russian oil of New Delhi, part of US efforts for Moscow’s pressure to end its war in Ukraine.
Since his return to the White House this year, US President Donald Trump has brought invoices as a wide -ranging policy tool, with contributions upgrading world trade.
Speaking at a construction industry event in New Delhi on Friday, Goyal said India was “always ready if one wants to have free trading agreement with us”.
But, he added, India “will never succumb or seem weak”.
“We will continue to move together and capture new markets.”
The latest Salvo invoices from Trump have stretched US-India links, with New Delhi criticizing the contributions as “unfair, unjustified and irrational”.
Trade talks between the two countries have stumbled agriculture and dairy markets.
Trump wants more US access, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to protect India farmers, a huge block of voters.
The US was India’s top export destination in 2024, with $ 87.3 billion missions.
However, analysts have warned that a 50% task is similar to a commercial embargo and is likely to harm smaller businesses.
Exporters of textile products, seafood and jewelry have already reported canceled US orders and losses to opponents such as Bangladesh and Vietnam, increasing fears of burdens.
Goyal said the government would take various measures in the coming days to support each sector and boost exports.
“I can say confidently that India’s exports this year will exceed numbers 2024-25,” he said.
