Continuing their impressive winning streak, India secured a dominant 160-run win against Netherlands in the match held at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing a mammoth target of 411 runs, the Dutch side fought hard but fell short and were bowled out for 250 runs in the 48th over.
Despite a poor start, losing their first wicket for five runs in the second over, the Dutch made a decent comeback in the game and avoided the collapse.
Max O’Dowd (30) and Colin Ackermann (35) provided stability for their side, but both batsmen ended up losing their wickets before their side reached 100 runs.
Taking advantage of the colossal total, Rohit Sharma used all the available bowlers at his disposal as eight different players bowled today, including Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill Suryakumar Yadav and himself.
Kohli took a wicket in his second over, removing Scott Edwards of the Dutch for 17 runs.
India will now play New Zealand in the first semi-final of the World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15.
Batting first, India posted a mammoth target of 411 for Edwards’ men thanks to a commanding display from their side.
The day belonged to the Indian batters as all six batters – apart from Suryakumar Yadav who played only one ball – showed their batting skills and played big shots.
India, as usual, started on a high note as the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill combined for 100 runs in just 11.4 overs before the latter departed for the stand as the former continued to display his attacking prowess.
After Gill, Kohli came into bat in search of the record 50th ODI century. The 34-year-old did complete his half-century but was bowled by Roelof van der Merwe for 51.
Kohli left India on 200-3 in 28.4 overs and that’s when Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul took charge and formed a stunning 208-run partnership that helped the hosts post 410 runs – the second-highest total of that of the World Cup – in the standings.
Iyer was well placed on the wicket when Rahul came to bat, so he continued to play aggressive cricket and finally got to his well-deserved century.
KL Rahul got off to a slow start as he completed his fifty off 40 balls, but then quickly picked up his innings as he ended up completing his century off 62 balls, scoring the last 50 runs in just 22 balls.
Meanwhile, Iyer was not out for 128 off 94 balls while Rahul lost his wicket after scoring 102 off 64.
