Hendrich was rejected after a VAR review that showed that the pull of Griedge Mbock Bathy’s Hair in the box. Grace Geyoro converted the resulting sentence, simply pushing it beyond Berger, despite the holder taking a strong hand to the ball.

Under pressure and shortography, Germany found a quick answer. Sjoeke Nüsken caught the French defense outside the guard by meeting the corner of Klara Bühl and heading home in the 25th minute.

Germany then defended bravely, with France having two goals banning offside. Nüsken later saw the second half of the penalty shoot -out.

Even before Shootout, Berger made a candidate for “Save of the Tournament” from the back and diving acrobatics to exclude Janina Minge’s flawless defensive header, maintaining the level of scoring.

Without goals at an extra time, the race went to penalties. Berger gave Germany the perfect start by saving Amel Majri’s effort. The French equalized the shootout when Sara Däbitz hit the bar and lost.
