Harvey Weinstein’s recent reports of blood required an emergency transfer to the hospital.
The disgraced movie producer was rushed to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan when his new blood test reports created an emergency.
Weinstein, 77, is expected to remain there until his condition stabilizes, his legal team said People Magazine in a statement on Monday.
Imran H. Ansari’s attorney of Aidala Bertuna & Kamins PC has already alleged medical maltreatment of the former Hollywood producer at the hands of New York prison staff at Rikers Island.
“Harvey Weinstein, who suffered from a lack of adequate medical care and is suffering from deplorable and inhumane conditions at Rikers Island, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for emergency treatment due to a disturbing blood test result that requires immediate medical attention,” Ansari said. .
“He is expected to remain there until his condition is stabilized. Depriving him of care is not only medical malpractice, but a violation of his constitutional rights.”
Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said in a separate statement that Weinstein is facing “cruel and unusual punishment” at Rikers, New York’s troubled prison complex.
“Mr. Weinstein, who suffers from a variety of illnesses, including leukemia, has been denied the medical care that someone in his medical condition deserves, whether incarcerated or not,” Engelmeier said. “In many ways, this mistreatment constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.”
Weinstein is awaiting a retrial on sex crime charges after his conviction was overturned in New York. He was recently diagnosed with leukemia in October.
Weinstein is already facing prison time after being convicted in a separate trial of aggravated rape, forced oral sex and sexual penetration by a foreign object in Los Angeles.
