Senior Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday called for Pakistan’s intervention to stop ongoing Israeli atrocities, saying it is a “brave” nation.
In his speech at the National Dialogue on “The Sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Responsibility of the Muslim Ummah” held in Islamabad, he said: “If Israel faced resistance from Pakistan, the perpetration of cruelty could stop.”
Expressing hope in support of Pakistan, he referred to the country as “brave” and the country of the mujahideen (people who fight for Islam).
Haniyeh, during the event organized by Majlis Ittehad-e-Ummah Pakistan, highlighted the opposition to Israel among those who closely follow the Holy Quran.
Fighting between Israel and Hamas, which rules the besieged coastal Gaza Strip, began on October 7, when Hamas launched an all-out attack on Israel.
In response, Israel launched a brutal ground and air assault on Gaza, killing more than 16,200 people, mostly women and children.
The head of the United Nations has warned that he expects “public order to break down completely soon due to the desperate conditions” in Gaza, which is currently under relentless Israeli bombardment.
The humanitarian situation amid the Israel-Hamas war is “rapidly deteriorating into a catastrophe with potentially irreversible consequences for the Palestinians as a whole,” Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a letter to the Security Council president.
“Such an outcome must be avoided at all costs,” he said in the letter.
Several world powers are trying to bring Israel back to the negotiating table, but intransigent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out holding talks with Hamas, aiming to “wipe it out”.
“Permanent Destruction”
In his speech, Haniyeh said Israel’s actions, including arresting some 16,000 Palestinians and desecrating holy sites, were a violation of international norms.
The Hamas leader expressed his frustration over the non-implementation of the Oslo Accords, citing the increase in the occupation of Palestinian territories.
Haniyeh warned against establishing diplomatic relations between Islamic countries and Israel, arguing that it would seriously harm the Palestinian cause.
Accusing America and other countries of supporting Israel, he expressed his ambition for Israel to back down, allowing the truth to prevail.
Haniyeh claimed that Israel had planned a surprise attack on Gaza with the aim of “permanent destruction”.
He justified the attacks by the Hamas mujahideen as self-defense, saying they were instigating Israel’s plans for occupation.
“Jews are the greatest enemies of Muslims”
He acknowledged the high expectations Palestinians had of Pakistan and expressed confidence in the country’s strength.
He claimed that Hamas is currently facing Israel’s most advanced weapons, reaffirming its determination to succeed in thwarting Israel’s intentions.
Despite the loss of thousands of Palestinians in the conflict, Haniyeh maintained his hope in Pakistan’s potential to force Israel to back down.
In conclusion, he characterized the Jews as the greatest enemies of Muslims worldwide.
He highlighted the sacrifices made by Palestinians in the war, arguing that Pakistan’s power could potentially end the ongoing conflict.
