Ganguly’s Pretoria team lands on Big-Hitting Brevis for a record price

Johannesburg:

Coach Sourav Ganguly dropped a record of 16.5 million Rand ($ 941,000) to land a large Dewald Brevis for the Pretoria Capitals franchise at the SA20 auction in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The former Captain of India won a bidding war against former New Zealand Governor Stephen Fleming, who wanted Brevis for Joburg Super Kings.

The price paid for Brevis closed the R14 million ($ 798,000) record, which took the South African international captain Aiden Markram in Durban’s Super Giants just a few minutes earlier.

Markram was the first player to violate the R10 million barrier for the tournament, which will be played from December 26 to January 25th.

Ganguly said he hoped that the six Brevis house hit would be suitable for Capitals’ home in Centurion, known as a high -ranking area.

“It’s a huge talent,” Ganguly said. “He has really gone forward in the last and half years. He’s a Change player and that’s what you need on T20 Cricket.”

Brevis went to the same school as the South African star Ab de Villiers and at the beginning of his career he was called “Baby Ab” for their play -style similarities.

After noting only five in the first two T20i entries in 2023, Brevis, 22, returned in July.

He set an international record of South Africa T20 125 not against Australia in Darwin last month, an Innings that included eight six.

He has hit 313 in eight entries since his return, on average 52.16.

South African players attracted the biggest offers in the auction.

Wiaan Mulder, Matthew Breetzke, Rassie Van der Dussen, Nandre Burger, Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee and Ottneil Baartman are all sold for R5 million or more.

Many Overseas players did not remain repaid but fast -paced Australian Dan Worral (Joburg Super Kings) and Saqib Mahmood of England (Pretoria Capitals) also brought the R1.5 million.

England’s Craig Overton went to the Pretoria team for R1 million.

Former England Bowler James Anderson, 43, was for auction at a basic price of R1 million, but did not attract bids.

The South African World Test Championship, which won the Captain Temba Bavuma, exceeded the minimum basic price of the R200,000.
