Global aid cuts, led by the United States, have disrupted efforts to vaccinate children against deadly diseases as well as the Covid-19 pandemics, the United Nations said on Thursday.

Homes of infectious diseases, including measles, meningitis and yellow fever, are increasing worldwide.

Emergency vaccinations and ordinary vaccinations were significantly affected in almost half of countries in early April due to funding cuts, according to reports from the World Health Organization’s offices to 108 largely low and lower countries.

Fund cuts also reduced the vaccine supplies and prevent the surveillance of the disease, WHO and UNICEF said in a joint release with Gavi, the alliance of vaccines.

“Failures (are) at a similar level to what we saw during Covid-19.

COVID-19 has caused what was called the biggest back on child vaccination in a generation, and aid funding cuts, led by the US-formerly the world’s largest donor-are risking the same result, the joint newsletter said.

They called for the maintenance of funding for childhood immunization before Gavi’s funding, which will begin in June. The team is looking for $ 9 billion for its work from 2026-2030.

Sania Nishtar, Gavi’s chief executive, said it was possible to combat the rise of infectious diseases, but only if the team is fully funded.

Cases of measles have increased since 2021, while meningitis has increased in Africa last year and cases of yellow fever have also increased after decreases in the last decade, organisms said.

Last month, an internal US government document showed that it would follow its cuts to UNICEF and WHO, part of the wider plans to rationalize and focus foreign aid to align with the “First” policy, canceling its contribution about $ 300 million.

Last week, the US Foreign Ministry told Reuters that Mark Lloyd, assistant administrator of Global Health, had been appointed to the 28 -person Gavi Council. US seat was previously empty.

Both the US Foreign Ministry and Gavi declined to comment on what this could mean for US funding.
