A former Israeli prisoner in Gaza has denied reports that she was beaten and cut while in custody.
In an Instagram post on Friday, Noa Argamani said: “I can’t ignore what’s happening in the media here in the last 24 hours, things are out of context.”
“They (Palestinians) did not beat me and did not cut my hair. I was in a building (in Gaza) that was blown up by the (Israeli) Air Force,” he stressed.
He said her actual words were: “This weekend, after the shooting, like I said, I had cuts all over my head and I beat my whole body.”
“I emphasize that they (Palestinians) did not hit me, but I was hurt all over my body by the collapse of the structure on me,” he added.
She added, referring to the start of hostilities last year: “As a victim of October 7, I will not allow myself to be victimized by the media again.”
Her comments related to a statement she made to Japanese diplomats in Tokyo on Thursday.
She said the Israeli media misinterpreted her testimony, claiming she had been beaten and cut while a prisoner in Gaza.
On June 8, the Israeli army managed to free four prisoners, including Arghamani, in a special operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, there are currently 109 Israeli hostages in Gaza, of which 36 are believed to be dead.
Israel launched an attack on Gaza after the Hamas attack last October 7, and has continued it for more than 10 months despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
The attack resulted in more than 40,200 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, and more than 93,000 injuries, according to local health authorities.
The ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine, leaving much of the area in ruins.
Israel is facing charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which ordered a halt to military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians had taken refuge before the May 6 invasion of the area.
