Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir has met a United States congressional delegation for talks on regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and economic collaboration, the military’s media wing said (Geo News).
The delegation comprised Ryan Keith Zinke, member of the House of Representatives for Montana, and Michael Baumgartner, member of the House of Representatives for Washington, according to the ISPR statement.
Field Marshal Munir highlighted what the statement described as Pakistan’s vast economic potential, arguing that sustainable regional stability was anchored in economic growth, trade expansion and connectivity. He also pointed to structural reforms intended to foster a business-friendly environment and attract foreign investment.
The account originates with ISPR; the outlets carrying it are reporting the statement rather than corroborating its content independently.
The meeting continues a run of senior Pakistan-US contacts through July, and comes with Islamabad positioned as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. It also follows the restructuring of Pakistan’s military command under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which created the Chief of Defence Forces role Munir now holds alongside his position as army chief.
Economic framing has been a consistent feature of these engagements, with Pakistani officials presenting minerals, connectivity and investment access as the substance of the relationship rather than security assistance alone.
