ISLAMABAD: The Federal Council of Ministers approved a stunning increase of up to 188% in the salaries of ministers and consultants, according to sources Geo News Friday.
According to sources, the salaries of federal ministers, ministers and consultants increased by 188%, with the Federal Council of Ministers to approve the summary through traffic.
Sources added that after approval, the salary of a federal minister, minister and adviser would be RS519,000, while federal ministers were previously paid RS200,000 and ministers received RS180,000.
In addition, sources reported that federal ministers’ salary increased by 159%, while the wages of ministers and advisers to the prime minister have seen a shocking increase of up to 188%.
The development came for more than a month after the members of the salaries and benefits of parliament and benefits (amendment) 2025 – already approved by the Senate – by a majority, increasing the salaries of parliamentary members.
The bill proposes to increase the salaries of MPs from RS218,000 to RS519,000, aligning them with a remuneration of federal secretaries.
Swollen political opponents from all parliamentary parties, such as the Pakistan Laiko Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), PML-N and others, were on the same page about a huge increase in their salaries.
Separately, days earlier, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that no proposal was currently being considered to increase wages and pensions of federal government officials in the upcoming budget.
However, he noted that the government is considering the ceiling and the limits for hiring and housing benefits.
A large number of government officials across the country organized a protest demonstration last month outside parliament, demanding increased wages, protecting pension and termination of privatization of government institutions.
The protesters, with the banner of Grand Alliance of government officials (AGEGA), urged the government to take immediate action to tackle their financial difficulties in the midst of heaven inflation.
