The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for about 2 million baked products, including various types of donuts, due to the risk of infection Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall affects 60 products manufactured by FGF Brands, a wholesale dough supplier that distributes baked products in the United States and Canada.
According to the FDA, the affected products – produced before December 13, 2024 – include flavored and filled donuts, cinnamon sticks, French crullers and fritters. Some of them were also sold to Dunkin ‘.
Recall sorting and consumer counseling
Initially announced on January 7, the recall was upgraded to Class II revocation on Wednesday. According to the FDA guidelines, this classification is applied when consumption of the product could lead to temporary or medically reversible health effects, while the risk of serious consequences remains low.
The FDA has not provided any further instructions for consumers at this stage. FGF brands have not yet commented on recall. Customers can reach the company by phone at +1 905-761-3333 or email at info@fgfbrands.com. A complete list of affected products is available on the FDA website.
Listeria infection risks
The Listeria monocytogenes bacterium can cause lisodes, a severe food infection. According to Disease Control and Prevention Centers (CDC), Listeria is one of the main causes of death from food diseases in the US, with about 1,600 cases and 260 deaths reported annually.
Listerosis symptoms include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Convulsions
- Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
For pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage, mortality, premature birth or serious illness in newborns.
Sanitary authorities advise people on high -risk categories to seek medical care if they develop symptoms that look like influenza within two months of consuming contaminated foods.
