  • System driven by the government’s vision to modernize the tax infrastructure.
  • The new system will eliminate the need for physical bank visits.
  • It marks a significant advance in revenue management.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday unveiled a new payment generation system that would enable secure, efficient and user-friendly online payments for taxpayers, eliminating the need to physically visit the bank.

The tax authority, in a statement, said the scheme is driven by the government’s vision to modernize Pakistan’s tax infrastructure.

“FBR is strengthening its commitment to promote tax administration and enhance revenue collection through advanced digital solutions,” it said, adding that the system, called ePayment 2.0, is available on the IRIS 2.0 portal.

The system will be accessible directly from taxpayers’ bank accounts via internet banking, ATM and mobile banking, eliminating the need for physical bank visits.

ePayment 2.0 marks a major advance in revenue management, covering a wide range of taxes, including income tax, sales tax, federal excise and withholding tax, FBR said.

The authority pointed out that taxpayers were previously using a separate ePayment system apart from IRIS 2.0, requiring them to switch between portals. However, FBR has now provided a unified and improved user interface with direct access to IRIS 2.0.

“By generating a unique Payment Slip Identifier (PSID), it enables quick and easy payments for both registered and unregistered taxpayers. Upon completion of payment, an Electronic Payment Receipt (CPR) is issued via email and SMS, which provides official confirmation and easy access for future use in the IRIS 2.0 system,” the statement said.

The statement also said that through a secure, accurate multi-step workflow, the system allows taxpayers to create a PSID, complete payment through ADC channels, and receive a real-time CPR accessible for future compliance needs within IRIS.

“To enhance transparency and accountability, it includes comprehensive PSID lookup capability, which allows taxpayers to easily retrieve and confirm payment records. This level of automation and integration minimizes errors and delays, greatly improving the tax paying experience and supporting the FBR’s vision of a business-friendly compliant tax environment,” it stressed.
