  • FBR collects RS7,343BN against the RS7,947BN target in eight months.
  • Agreement with IMF provisions RS9,168 billion by 31 March.
  • The tax body must Collect RS1,825 billion in the ongoing month.

Islamabad: With the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which is considering the first International Financial Fund (IMF) review of the loan program, the Federal Revenue Office (FBR) looks at a surprising tax deficits of RS604 billions in current use, The news reported on Saturday.

With the target of the 9,168 billion RS agreed with the IMF for March 31, the FBR will have to collect RS1,825 billion in March – a month characterized by Ramadan, holidays and fewer working days, especially leading to Eid Ul Fitr.

According to the details available with the publication, the FBR brought RS7,343 billion in the first eight months of current use against the specified target of RS7,947 billions, observing a deficit of RS604 billions.

Now only two options have left Pakistani negotiators: either to ask the IMF to cut the FBB tax target or the use of the available tax space due to reduced debt service to maintain the desired fiscal deficit in the desired limits.

The upcoming IMF talks have become critical to the consequences of a huge deficit in achieving the collection of revenue during the first eight months of current use.

Taking into account this rate, it can be considered that the revenue objective will lose exceeding the RS1,000 billion point by June in June 2025.

The IMF review mission is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad this weekend and start Parleys from March 3 to complete the first $ 1 billion release as part of the EFF EFF.

Pakistan had also made a request to increase the EFF loan with an additional $ 1 billion under the RSF to achieve the loan amount to $ 8 billion.

Prior to the IMF review, the FBR was shocked to implement an imposing revenue deficit during the outgoing month (February 2025), as it expanded to RS136 billions.

The FBR could only collect RS847 billion in February 2025 against the desired target of RS983 billions, so the deficit was in RS136 billions.

The gross collection of FBB in February 2025 amounted to RS885 billion, of which the tax mechanism issued 37 billion RS refunds, so the net collection ranged around RS847-848 billion.

FBR has raised RS347 billions in the form of income tax, tax on sales of 367 billion, customs RS106 billions and RS65 billions as federal specialty taxes (FED) in February 20.

The revenue deficit continues to further expand with the passage every month, as the temporary collection number for February 2025 shows that FBR has made a collection of RS847 billion against the desired target of RS983 billions.

Ironically, the FBR collection in February 2025 was lower than January 2025 when it had received RS872 billion. The deficit in the first seven months amounted to 468 billion Rs, so with the addition of RS136 billion in February, the total deficit increased to 604 billion during the first eight months of current use.
