- FBR to set up dedicated cells in each office for manual file records.
- Filers are encouraged to visit offices for assistance with the electronic system.
- Extension of time under section 214A of the Income-tax Act.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for manual filing of returns till November 30, describing it as one of the “special measures” to help manual income tax filers as part of its ongoing efforts to fully digitize tax operations across Pakistan.
A spokesman said the decision was made to facilitate a small number of manual tax returns that “may face” challenges in adapting to the digital system.
“In order to ensure a smooth transition to the electronic filing system, the FBR has discontinued manual returns from Tax Year 2024. Recognizing that a small number of manual tax filers may face challenges in adapting to the digital system, the FBR has decided to provide a special facility for such individuals.”
An official notification has been issued.
According to the FBR, to support the transition, it has been decided that a dedicated cell in each tax office will provide all necessary legal and technical assistance to taxpayers who were previously filing manual returns.
“Manual filers are encouraged to visit their respective tax offices where they will get free assistance for registration and online filing of returns. Those who need legal assistance will be provided free legal services by FBR offices during the current tax year,” the spokesperson said.
The deadline for submission of return for manual tax files has been extended under the powers conferred by Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
“This initiative underlines FBR’s commitment to facilitate taxpayers and promote a fully digitized, transparent and efficient tax system in Pakistan.”
