In a recent development, the Karachi Bar Association issued a formal censure against famous Pakistani actor Faysal Quraishi and a private media channel, apologizing for allegedly tarnishing the reputation of the legal fraternity in their drama series. Zulm.
The condemnation, signed by Secretary General Ikhtiar Ali Channa and Human Rights Commission Chairman Zahid Hussain Soomro, expressed deep displeasure at the portrayal of the legal profession in the drama Zulm, particularly highlighting Faysal’s alleged use of inappropriate language against lawyers.
According to the statement issued by the Bar Association, the drama’s portrayal of the legal fraternity was deemed disparaging, resulting in a significant blow to its reputation. The Association has profusely apologized to all parties involved, including Faisal and the owner of the private media house.
Furthermore, the Association has indicated that it reserves the right to take legal action against the aforementioned parties, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.
In response to the conviction, Faysal took to Instagram to address the controversy. In a heartfelt video, he expressed his gratitude to Qaiser Khan Nizamani, a lawyer of the Karachi High Court and Karachi Bar, who contacted him to discuss the matter.
“A notice was issued after which all hell broke loose. My fans and friends were worried all morning. Where I was, there were no signals there. So anyway, I got many calls but I am very thankful to Qaiser Khan Nizamani Sahib, who is a lawyer of Karachi High Court and Karachi Bar Court,” he shared.
Faysal further expressed, “I am very grateful to him for calling me and asking me what the problem was. So I told him, look, sir, you understand that as actors it’s not our fault, we say whatever is written.”
The actor acknowledged the concerns raised by the legal fraternity and expressed regret if anyone had been hurt by his performance in the drama. Reminding his fans how he’s just playing the characters written by the show’s cast, Faysal said: “Yeah, this play had a lot of things that we ourselves, personally, I mean we told them we won’t say that, that shouldn’t ». not to be told, so we didn’t say much.”
“Sometimes by accident, some things slip out, these can be deleted later as well. Anyway, this got aired due to which our lawyer bhai was upset, I am very sorry if anyone got hurt,” he added.
Actor Khaie stressed that regardless of the usual showbiz protocol, he deeply regrets that people were hurt. “I personally don’t like it if I hurt someone, because I’m part of this community/society too, and if someone said something like that about me then it hurts, so we’ll try next time not to let that happen,” he continued.
