Europe to present its own Ukrainian peace plan

Europe to present its own Ukrainian peace plan

LONDON:

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday that European leaders had agreed to draw up a peace plan in Ukraine to move to the United States, a vital step for Washington to be able to provide security guarantees that Kiev says is vital to Russia.

At a summit in London just two days after the clash of Volodymyr Zelensky with US President Donald Trump and cut a visit to Washington, world leaders offered a strong demonstration of support to the Ukrainian president and promised to help him.

European leaders have agreed that they had to spend more on defense to show Trump that Epirus can be protected and with many nations struggling with already stretched public finances, the head of the European Commission suggested that the block could facilitate its rules around debt.

Starmer, who welcomed Saturday on Saturday with a warm embrace, said Britain, Ukraine, France and some other nations would be a “willingness to come together” and compile a peace plan to get Trump. He did not mention what other nations, but he said that more countries were willing to participate.

“We are at a crossroads in history today,” Starmer said. “It’s not a time for more discussion, it’s time to act.

Starmer announces that the UK government will allow Ukraine to use £ 1.6 billion in the United Kingdom to buy more than 5,000 air defense missiles.

Following Trump’s fight with Zelensky at the Oval Office, he put fears for the US who were supporting Ukraine and instead imposing a peace -to -do peace plan with Russia, Europe is trying to ensure that Kiev is not squeezed by any talks.

To do this, several leaders said they need to increase defense spending – which could help bring Trump to the side to provide a US security guarantee in the event of peace.

“After a long period of underpinning, it is now extremely important to accelerate the defensive investment for a prolonged period of time,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters.

“Member States need more fiscal spaces to make an increase in defense spending,” he said, adding that Europe had to turn “Ukraine into a steel purple that is set for potential invaders.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said leaders agreed that Europe had to take on greater responsibility and start burdening “more expenses for its defense budgets in NATO”. He added that leaders agreed that they should keep close ties with the US.

No weapons, stocks

Without the weapons and depth of US ammunition reserves, Europe hopes to convince Trump that it can defend itself, but that Russia will only comply with a peace agreement coming with the support of the United States.

Talks with the US have focused on Washington, providing a so -called backstop for a European peace role, possibly in the form of air, intelligence and surveillance coverage and a greater indefinite threat if Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to get more ground.

But vital to get any agreement from Trump is for European nations to increase defense spending and signal that they will participate in any peace role – something Starmer was recognized was difficult to unanimity.

Starmer increased defense spending before his visit to Washington last week, and NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte said some European leaders had set private new plans for defense spending at the meeting, but refused to give details.

Trump has increased US policy for the three-year war since it returned to the White House in January, questioning its military and political support in Ukraine-and Europe-and ending Moscow’s isolation.

He had blind in Europe by calling Putin without warning and sending a delegation to Saudi Arabia for talks with Russia without including Ukraine or Europe. Trump falsely suggested that Kiev was responsible for the start of the war and on Friday, criticized Zeleneski for not grateful for our strengthening.

Zelensky’s series with Trump on Friday ended a week, when Europe seemed to be in a better position in its attempt to encourage Trump to continue providing support to Ukraine after Washington visits to Washington by French President Emmanuel Macron and Starmer.

Starmer described the monitoring of the spit between Zelensky and Trump at the Oval Office as an uncomfortable projection, but was willing to promote the discussion forward, offering himself as between Europe and the United States.

In a further demonstration of support for Ukraine leader, Zelensky later flew to meet King Charles in his private home in Eastern England. Zelensky did not wear a suit at the meeting with the king and he seemed that Charles had no such problems with his costume.

In a sign of still sad relations between Washington and Kiev, White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told CNN on Sunday that the US needs a Ukrainian leader who is willing to secure a constant peace with Russia, but that he is not clear.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also praised Trump’s “common sense” and accused European countries of seeking to prolong the conflict, supporting Zelensky with their bayonets in the form of peace units. “

Starmer said the leaders also agreed to work on Sunday to ensure that Kiev is on the table of any peace talks and to enhance the country’s defense abilities. “Europe must do the heavy elevation, but in order to support peace in our continent and achieve this effort it must have strong US support,” he added.

The London Summit participated in leaders from Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania, except for the Turkish Secretary of the European Commissioner and the Turkish Secretary of State.

This week, the 27 EU countries will hold an emergency summit in Brussels. There will be leaders at this meeting, who had not been invited to London, and are much warmer to Moscow. More specifically, the Viktor Orban of Hungary.
