ROME:
The huge numbers proved to be a pre-Palestinian rally in Europe on Saturday, calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and the release of activists on the vessel with humanitarian aid to the territory.
Protest organizers in Rome said hundreds of thousands of people had proven to be a fourth day, after Israel was hindering the 45-Strong Flotilla seeking to arrive in Gaza earlier this week.
About 70,000 people, according to police, fell on the streets of Barcelona, in one of the various pre-Palestinian protests throughout Spain.
Elsewhere, several thousand people were passing through the center of the Irish capital of Dublin to signal what the organizers said it was “two years of genocide” in Gaza.
With Ireland, Spain is one of the most intense European critics of Israel’s military attack in Gaza, which triggered Hamas on October 7, 2023, attacking Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip.
But in Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s cruel government has been criticized for its inaction in the siege of Palestinian territory.
On Saturday, Meloni accused the protesters of taking out a statue by Pope Ioannis Pavlos II with graffiti in front of Rome’s main train station, calling the “shame of act”.
“They claim that they take to the streets for peace, but they are offending the memory of a man who was a true defender and a builder of peace,” he said in a statement.
Protesters in the Italian capital, including families with children, shouted: “We are all Palestinians”, “Free Palestine” and “stop genocide”, with many Palestinian flags and wearing black and white walnuts Kefiyehs.
“I usually do not appreciate large -scale demonstrations, but today I could not bring myself to stay home,” said Donato Colucci, a 44 -year -old leader of scouts accompanying 150 young people from a secular union, told AFP.
“I think countries like Italy, France and Spain have developed a culture of resistance and democratic values more than others, because they have experienced dictatorship and violence.”
In Barcelona, Marta Carranza, a 65 -year -old retired pensioner with a Palestinian flag on her back, said Israel’s policy “has been wrong for many years and we have to take to the streets”.
Solidarity
The Global Sumudillas, which watched Wednesday, left Barcelona in early September and had sought to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations says hunger has been taken.
About 50 Spaniards in Flotilla were held by Israel, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told public television in an interview on Saturday.
