Manchester City confirmed their dominance of the Champions League with a resounding 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen, securing a place in the quarter-finals.

The match unfolded as expected, with Manuel Akanji effortlessly volleying in a corner just five minutes into the game.

Copenhagen, despite finishing above Manchester United in their Champions League group, struggled to contain City’s relentless attacks. Julian Alvarez capitalized on a goalkeeping error to extend City’s lead to 2-0. The away fans cheekily chanted “Two-nil in the library”, reflecting the one-sided nature of the match.

However, Copenhagen managed to pull one back, capitalizing on Manchester City’s defensive error. Mohamed Elyounoussi calmly slotted the ball past Ederson, scoring their first away goal in a Champions League knockout tie. While it didn’t change the overall result, it did add a moment of challenge to an otherwise smooth City performance.

Goalscoring sensation Erling Haaland added another chapter to his remarkable history by netting his 41st Champions League goal just before half-time. In a playful celebration, he imitated an earlier volley, showing his skill and light-hearted approach to the game.

The second half saw Manchester City’s continued dominance, with Erling Haaland creating chances and the team trying to feed him for more goals. Despite Copenhagen providing the occasional threat, the result was never in doubt.

By the final whistle, City had secured their place in the quarter-finals for the sixth successive season. The focus now turns to the Premier League, with a crucial clash with Liverpool looming on the horizon. Guardiola’s strategic changes and the team’s seamless performance confirmed their status as Champions League favourites, alongside giants such as Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

The match highlighted not only City’s relentless pursuit of victory, but also Erling Haaland’s extraordinary ability to score. His ability to maintain a ratio of over a goal per game in the Champions League sets him apart from football legends like Messi and Ronaldo.
