Emma Stone Weighs In on Her Experience Shooting ‘Bugonia’

Emma Stone was proud to say she didn’t break any bones while filming the absurd sci-fi comedy ‘Bugonia’.

“I’ve broken a lot of bones,” he said Reutersrecalling how she felt nervous when it came time to confront her co-star Jesse Plemons for his role as Teddy Gatz, a beekeeper obsessed with conspiracy theories.

“He was absolutely safe and did an incredible job. I didn’t break any bones,” he said.

In “Bugonia,” Stone plays a high-powered pharmaceutical executive named Michelle Fuller who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorist cousins who are convinced she’s an alien.

The film is based on the 2003 South Korean film “Save the Green Planet!” written and directed by Jang Joon-hwan, and arrives in select theaters on Friday and then across the US on October 31.

Plemons plays Gatz while up-and-coming actor Aidan Delbis plays his cousin named Don.

Both the real-life Delbis and the fictional Don are on the autism spectrum, adding representation to the Hollywood blockbuster distributed by Focus Features.

“That character felt different and he felt like he had a different sensibility and a different view of the world and he was very sensitive,” director George Lanthimos said of the Don character.

“So I thought a neurodeviant person would be perfect for this kind of role,” he added.

For Lanthimos, the role of Delby, which was the actor’s feature debut, served as “the soul of the film” as well as “the voice of reason” that resonates throughout the film.

Stone also felt that the story presented complex characters, particularly emphasizing the tension between Fuller and Gatz.

“It’s a lot of fun not knowing whose side you’re on back and forth throughout the story, who’s right, who’s wrong, both kind of right and both very wrong,” Stone said.
