Emilia Clarke just announced that her Netflix adaptation The Twits is a film that “speaks to the world we live in”.
The 38-year-old actress voices narrator Pippa in the adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, and it’s a story about a couple known for their cruel pranks on each other and their misbehavior.
Director Phil Johnston directed the film, which is the first screen adaptation The Twitsthat the film is a “social satire” and a “big dumb comedy about the world as I see it now”.
Clark said at PA news agency: “It was something that (she and Johnston) talked about a lot, and it’s still one of the biggest reasons why I love this movie and Phil so much.”
“It plays with ideas that we can all relate to as they talk about the world we live in, but it makes us suspend our disbelief enough to feel the absurdity without being completely damaged by the state of the world we live in. As Roald Dahl did, it is a warning more than a resignation.” Game of Thrones the star further said.
The film also follows two brave children and a family of magical Muggle-Wumps as they try to save their town from the Twits as the foul couple rise to power.
Clarke’s character is a bedbug who lives in Mr. Twit’s beard and is the narrator of the film, telling the story of the Twits to her son Jeremy.
THE Me before you The talent spoke about her voice acting and said: “Well, it went through a few iterations before we landed on the Pippa you see in the film. She started out as a very sharp, blood-stained woman with an incredibly dry wit, but after a few rotations we realized we needed her to be the voice of calm reason, but even more playful with her son.”
“You can tell her opinion of the Twits, but you can also tell that she doesn’t want to scare her son too much… she was so much fun to play,” concluded Emilia Clarke.
Roald Dahl, a popular author, who died in 1990 aged 74, published The Twits in 1980 and is known for creating characters including The BFG and Matilda.
