Grimes has revealed her first face tattoo and fans are torn.
In a selfie she shared on Wednesday, the 37-year-old musician revealed the new ink, which is also featured in her latest music video for Artificial Angels released on October 17th.
The tattoo was created by cybersigil artist Glyphomancer, who combines ancient symbols with futuristic designs.
“I think @glyphomancer is really original and innovative with her work, especially the tatts – there’s a real beauty, delicacy and innovation here,” Grimes wrote in her caption.
The Canadian singer, born Claire Boucher, added that the decision to get her first face tattoo took her nearly a decade to embrace. “I’ve spent about ten years emotionally working my way up to a face tattoo,” he shared.
Grimes previously teased the idea ahead of 2022, asking fans on Instagram: “I’m seriously considering getting a white ink tattoo on my face next week — thinking?”
The musician also joked about how subtle her new tattoo is, writing: “I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed, not even my parents, not even after the video lol.”
The tattoo artist also left an encouraging comment, saying, “It looks so great on you,” to which Grimes replied, “@glyphomancer genius level work as always.”
The mom of three, who shares all her children with ex-partner Elon Musk, ended her post by reflecting on tattoo culture in general. “You feel like wear is in a crazy renaissance that’s kind of underrated.”
However, fans couldn’t really notice the artwork.
“Is the tattoo in the room with us?” one person wrote in the comments, while another had a resemblance to ringworm.
“Where’s the tat” commented a third user.
“You could have the coolest face tattoo ever but you have this. I’m sorry but I’m so confused,” wrote another.
“Everyone is so mean I love it,” read another comment as the responses piled up.
However, not all of the comments were bad. Some expressed genuine admiration, with one saying, “This is really great,” while another Instagram user said, “It looks so great on you.”
