Several other items, such as pulses, flour, sugar and rice, showed a gradual decline in prices during the year.

However, some food items such as lentils, ghee and oil saw significant price increases.

According to the Wholesale Grocers Association, flour was available at 128 rupees per kg, 142 rupees per kg and 150 rupees per kg depending on its quality at the beginning of the year. However, at the end of the year, the prices fell to Rs83 per kg, Rs94 per kg and Rs105 per kg.

According to the president of the Wholesale Grocers Association, the prices of ghee and oil soared in 2024 as they increased by more than Rs 100 per kg/litre.

In the wholesale market, the price of unbranded oil increased by Rs 114 per kg/litre to Rs 480 per kg/litre and the price of branded oil increased by Rs 125 per kg/litre to Rs 550 per kg/litre.
