Listen to the article

On an action-packed night at Perth’s RAC Arena, UFC 305 delivered an exciting main event as Dricus du Plessis successfully defended his middleweight title against former champion, Israel Adesanya.

The South African powerhouse secured a fourth-round submission victory, locking in a rear naked choke at 3:38, to cement his dominance of the 185-pound division.

Du Plessis, who has been on a tear since joining the UFC in 2020, extended his winning streak to eight, with this latest triumph showing his grit and determination.

The bout was a back-and-forth affair, with both fighters having their moments, but Du Plessis’ relentless pressure eventually overwhelmed Adesanya, leading to the decisive finish.

Adesanya, returning from a layoff following his title loss to Sean Strickland, entered the bout looking to reclaim his place atop the middleweight mountain. Despite flashes of brilliance, including crisp jabs and powerful body shots, “The Last Stylebender” was unable to fend off Du Plessis’ aggressive advances in the following rounds.

After the match, Adesanya hinted at a possible retirement, expressing his disappointment, but ultimately reaffirmed his commitment to the sport with a defiant statement: “I will not leave!”

Du Plessis, in a show of sportsmanship, praised Adesanya’s toughness and acknowledged the importance of their rivalry, hinting at a possible reconciliation of ongoing tensions between the two African-born fighters.

The co-main event also provided fireworks as flyweights Kai Kara-France and Steve Erceg went to battle, with Kara-France emerging victorious, capping off a successful night for City Kickboxing.

As UFC 305 concluded, Du Plessis’ dominance at the top continues and the middleweight division looks as competitive as ever.

Du Plessis reacts to his win

Dricus du Plessis expressed his satisfaction after his fourth round submission victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

After the win, he simply stated, “And here I am, still champion baby,” acknowledging his continued reign as middleweight champion.
