Browns rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will fill in for Watson at quarterback against the Steelers on Sunday

The Cleveland Browns confirmed Wednesday that their quarterback will undergo surgery to repair a potentially season-ending fracture after an MRI on Monday showed the quarterback suffered a displaced glenoid fracture in his right shoulder.
Watson needs emergency surgery, team doctors concluded, to prevent more structural damage.
“I’m still in disbelief. I’m still trying to process all the information,” Watson said. “It felt like we were turning a corner to really make a run and I still think we’re going to continue with the guys in that locker room. I just wanted to naturally be a part of it… It’s hard trying to wrap it all around my head right now.”
Watson, who will be injured, is expected to return for the 2024 season and hopes to throw again in two to three months.
Meanwhile, Browns rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will start at quarterback against the Steelers on Sunday, according to coach Kevin Stefanski.
“I want to give him a week where he knows he’s the starter and has a full week of preparation,” Stefanski said.
Thompson-Robinson made his first career start in Week 4 after Watson was inactive with a rotator cuff strain that has forced him to miss four games this season. ESPN mentionted.
Thompson-Robinson completed 19 of 36 passes for 121 yards and three interceptions in a 28-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The rookie will start over PJ Walker, who has thrown for 618 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions in five games.
Watson revealed he knew something was wrong with his shoulder during the first half of Sunday’s win over the Ravens, but continued to play.
“The whole second half it was painful to throw a football,” Watson said. “I was just going through what I felt.”
The 28-year-old quarterback had his best game in a Browns uniform on Sunday, completing all 14 of his second-half pass attempts and leading Cleveland to a game-winning field goal to beat Baltimore 33-31.
Despite suffering a sprained left high ankle, Watson pushed to continue playing but doctors warned he could make the injury worse.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the shoulder fracture was unrelated to his rotator cuff strain and there was a “pretty clear medical recommendation” for Watson to undergo surgery.
“We’re very disappointed and heartbroken for DeShon,” Berry said, “especially considering everything he’s battled and been through medically this season.”
