Cynthia Erivo feels “so pleased” and “really proud” after its release Wicked: For good.
The Tony Award-winning stage and film star stars as the green witch Elphaba in Jon M Chu’s two-part adaptation of the Broadway hit, which is loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name.
Wicked: For goodness sake, was released on November 21 and follows the first film, which was released in November 2024.
He sees Elphaba being demonized by them in Oz and transformed into the Wicked Witch of the West, as she is known in L Frank Baum’s fantasy world novel.
Speaking on the ITV show Lorraine, Erivo said: “I’m so happy that it’s finally out and people can go see it. I’m really proud of that particular part of the film.”
“I felt like we all had a lot to grow. So I’m excited that we can share that now,” she added.
In the film musical, Erivo stars alongside American pop star Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, an estranged friend of Elphaba who becomes a symbol of kindness in Oz in the second film.
Erivo said: “When we realized we could actually sing together, like our voices were working together, it was really like magic. Sorry for the term, but that’s how it felt. It was like, ‘Oh my god, we’re right for each other.’
In addition, entering Instagram, Erivo wrote: “I could write you an essay, a poem, Shakespearean prose, to describe what this journey meant to me, what lessons it taught me, what it bought me this time.”
The actress and singer continued, “I could try to put a measure to the love I felt and experienced. I could put a number on the stories I’ve heard.’
“The truth is, numbers are too small and words aren’t enough. So I’ll just say this. Take my hand and walk with me to the end of this gold-paved road and I hope the things I’ve found can find you too. Thank you for letting me be your Elphaba. All my love, C,” concluded Cynthia Erivo.
