Islamabad: The government has raised the four -year ban on new domestic gas connections and has announced that consumers will now receive connected connections of liquefied natural gas (RLNG) instead of local gas.
Federal oil minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, addressing a press conference with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, said Wednesday that the decision had been taken by the Federal Council of Ministers, according to Prime Minister SHARIFAZ.
Malik said the ban, imposed in 2021, had forced residents of new housing and apartments to rely on LPG cylinders and other fuels. “Certainly, there is the pain of becoming your cylinders stuffed from the market and then there is the issue of sub-formulated rollers, which often lead to unwanted incidents, and sometimes the pipes also leak,” he explained.
He noted that the two gas supply companies had already completed the conditions and would begin to entertain pending applications as soon as the cabinet decision was notified. “RLNG is definitely expensive compared to local gas, however, it is 30-35% cheaper than LPG,” Malik said. He added that candidates already on the waiting list would be invited to convert to RLNG by paying the required remuneration and installing a new connection.
The minister said the billing cycle for RLNG would continue in accordance with the monthly system that has already been implemented. He acknowledged that RLNG was not cheap, but assured that the government was working to boost local gas exploration so that people could get cheaper supplies in the future.
For his part, Minister Chaudhry said the decision would resolve the long -term difficulties that people face due to the unavailability of gas connections.
He also stressed that the Federal Council meeting was praying for the departed soul of the great Adnan Aslam, discussing the challenges associated with floods in Punjab where water had entered Sindh via Panjnad and reviewed plans for preaching emergency.
He also said that the floating streets had been limited, contributing to the floods, confirming Pakistan’s determination to eliminate terrorism. Chaudhry also underlined Pakistan’s ties with China, praising Beijing as a “great friend” who always supported the country, adding that a new phase of bilateral cooperation began.
