Fearing for their lives because he refused to drop the gun, officers opened fire, killing him, official says

Authorities in Montgomery County fatally shot a gunman who allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman at a home in the 14710 block of Callard Court, local media reported Tuesday.
Officers from the Conroe Police Department received reports of an assault around midnight and found a woman screaming as the gunman held her with a gun to her head, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said.
The gunman tried to attack the woman in front of the officers, but fortunately, the woman got away, Ligon said ABC13.
Fearing for their lives because he refused to put down the gun, the officers opened fire, killing him, Ligon said, adding that as with all police-involved shootings, this case will be referred to a grand jury.
This was the second shooting Monday night in which local authorities fatally shot and killed someone in the area.
Earlier in the day, officials with HPD, the Department of Public Safety and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office fatally shot a man who was reported to be involved in a serial robbery.
According to HPD Chief Troy Finner, police had been tracking the suspect since about 6 p.m. because he was believed to have been involved in multiple robberies in the Houston area.
His final crime that night was a liquor store robbery where employees were held at gunpoint in Oak Ridge North, Montgomery County, Finner said, according to the ABC13.
Police tried to stop him as he was leaving the store and ordered him to drop his gun, officials said.
“When he did not follow their orders, they shot him, again fearing for their lives,” the police chief said.
None of the officers were injured in any of the shooting incidents.
