Liu Lijun, a Chinese postgraduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), reportedly the student’s Visa was discovered after organizing pre-Palestinian gatherings on campus.
Liu was arrested in May 2024 during protests related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023.
According to the Telegraph India, the revocation of Liu’s view follows an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump, who aims to tackle anti -Semitism in response to the conflict. The mandate focuses on what Trump’s administration described as an increase in anti -Semitism in campus campus and US communities. A basic provision of class threatens to cancel the visas for international students involved in pre-Palestinian activism, especially those with bonds with Hamas.

Liu’s case is one of the first cases of revocation of the visa based on the new policy. The Executive Administration directs the federal services, including education, state and domestic security, to develop recommendations on how to monitor and report the activities of foreign students and staff involved in such protests. In addition, these organizations are required to provide the White House within 60 days of legal tools to combat anti -Semitism.
Liu was among hundreds of UCLA students who took part in protests against Israel’s military actions in Gaza. Protests escalated in early May 2024, when law enforcement invaded a solidarity camp where about 400 protesters had gathered. According to protest organizers, more than 100 people were injured in the invasion, with some demanding hospital care. Police used flash-bangs and sticks to scatter the crowd.
President Trump’s decision to revoke Liu’s view to align with his broader efforts to limit pre-paletal activism, especially among international students. He referred to those involved in protests such as “aliens” residents and warned that they could face deportation by 2025.
The Council for US-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has condemned the executive order, arguing that it violates the rights of the first amendment. Cair underlined the importance of protecting freedom of speech, stating that these rights should not be undermined through executive measures.
