China’s top political advisory body will hold an annual session

China’s top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), will hold its annual session from March 4 to 10 in Beijing, according to a spokesman.

The second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee will begin at 3 p.m. on Monday and will end on the morning of March 10, will last a total of six days, said Liu Jieyi, a spokesman for the summit, during a press conference on Sunday.

Liu stated that all preparations for the session had been completed and various activities were planned. The opening and closing meetings will be attended by foreign diplomatic envoys in China.

Reviewing the work of the CPPCC National Committee in 2023, which marked the beginning of the term of the 14th National Committee, Liu stressed that it had made a good start. He stressed that the work of the CPPCC was completed under the overall leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Political advisers in the past year have focused on providing proposals for Chinese modernization. A total of 94 consultation activities were carried out throughout the year, covering various topics, including the creation of a new development pattern, with 138 research and inspection activities carried out by political consultants, according to Liu.

The CPPCC, as a critical channel and specialized advisory body for socialist deliberative democracy, aims to ensure that the voice and will of the people are incorporated into the work of political consultation, democratic oversight and participation and consultation of state affairs, he said. .

Liu added that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the founding of the CPPCC. He expressed CPPCC’s commitment to improve its capacity for political consultation, democratic oversight and participation and discussion of state affairs.

The CPPCC National Committee has engaged in consultation and advice on various macroeconomic and other important economic issues, with a particular focus on high-quality development.

Recognizing the private sector as a powerful driving force for Chinese modernization and an important foundation for high-quality development, the CPPCC National Committee has worked with local committees and authorities to address practical challenges faced by private enterprises. Efforts have been made to create platforms for coordinated development between state-owned and private enterprises, thereby enhancing private sector expansion.

Addressing employment concerns, policy advisors and participating units conducted thorough research and studies to promote high-quality employment. Proposals have been made to facilitate full-time employment for college graduates and to expand channels for finding jobs and starting businesses. In total, 91 proposals were submitted to address practical employment issues.

Over the past year, political advisers have also offered solutions to help deepen the integration and coordinated development of the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, an important national strategy. This includes accelerating the creation of a unified market in the region, promoting digitization in industries and creating inter-regional talent exchange mechanisms.

Looking ahead, the CPPCC National Committee will continue to focus on the goals and tasks of Chinese modernization, providing advice on the major policies of the CPC Central Committee, the country’s important strategic needs, and important practical development issues.
