  • 25,000 units under construction near Karachi.
  • The local unit targets a 30-35% share of the department.
  • The receipt of BYD’s Shark 6 to start on Friday.

Karachi: The Chinese BYD electric vehicles plans to develop its first car in Pakistan until July or August 2026 to record the growing demand for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the area, the company manager said on Wednesday.

Byd, the world’s leading EV manufacturer, is rapidly expanding outside its domestic market, where it is at a strong price. Pakistan’s plant faces the increase in demand from emerging markets and allows the company to benefit from the government’s motives.

The factory is under construction from April near Karachi in a partnership between BYD and Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of Hub Power, Danish Khaliq, Sales Vice President of Sales and Strategy in BYD Pakistan Reuters.

He would initially have the ability to produce 25,000 units per year in a double shift, he said. It did not work out when the factory would achieve complete capacity or say when mass production begins there.

The plant will start with the assembly of imported components, with some local production of non -electric components, Khaliq said, adding that it would produce initial vehicles for the domestic market, with the possibility of exporting right -wing driving countries in the area depending on the cost of goods and business finances.

“We do not predict the excess capacity in our system, as demand in Pakistan will cover,” he said.

Byd began providing imported HMs to Pakistan in March. Khaliq did not give an exact number of sales, but said the sales of a few hundred cars had exceeded the internal targets by 30%.

Khaliq said he expects that the size of the EVS market and hybrid cars in Pakistan will grow three to four times in 2025 from about 1,000 total units in 2024.

Based on Hubco deposit, BYD Pakistan made about RS444 million rupees in profits in the quarter of March 2025.

Byd will start the Shark 6 plug-in Plugup truck in Pakistan on Friday. China’s MG is already selling an SUV PHEV, while Haval’s opponent is going to participate in the department soon.

Hybrid plug-in offers a more practical choice in Pakistan, as the country is facing lack of charging stations for all electric vehicles. The government reduced power invoices for chargers by 45% in January to encourage EV and private charges.
