China aims to effectively eliminate intense air pollution by the end of 2025, a senior environmental official said as authorities increase efforts to control pollution and reduce emissions in the “battle for blue skies”.
China will improve the prediction of air quality and early warning systems and enhance the coordinated management of harmful airborne particles known as PM2.5, as well as ozone pollution, said Li Tianwei, director of the department. .
“The battle for Blue Skies remains unchanged,” Li said, according to a copy at the Ministry of Ecology and the Environment on Monday.
Although some progress has been made, air pollution remains a major problem in China and affects people’s economies and quality of life, said the World Health Organization (WHO).
Atmospheric pollution is responsible for about two million deaths in China annually, the WHO said. Of these deaths, ambient pollution of the environment caused more than a million deaths, while air pollution of households from cooking with polluting fuels and technologies caused millions of deaths, said on its website.
Who considers concentrations of PM2.5 over 50 microscopes per “severe” air pollution of cubic meter.
China’s air quality improved significantly in 2024, Li said. The average concentration of PM2.5 in cities was 29.3 microwaves per cubic meter, a decrease of 2.7%annually.
The percentage of days with good air quality reached 87.2%, increased by 1.7 percentage points on an annual basis.
China must introduce new standards of broadcasting that are aligned with global optimum practices, Li said, adding that the country will boost the share of new energy vehicles and machinery at airports, ports and logistics parks.
Authorities are also planning to promote the transportation of long distances of the goods of bulk from rail and water and not from roads.
President Xi Jinping said China prioritizes environmental protection, promoting green lifestyle and that maintaining nature is an essential part of building a modern socialist country.
