Charlotte Emma Aitchison, who goes by the name Charli XCX, recently shared why she thought of choosing Ariana Grande to remix her song. Sympathy is a knife.

In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Mr Club Classics The singer reflected on finding common ground with Grande, saying, “I think what’s interesting about the remix album… is that I was writing the original record when I was in a very different position than I am putting out the Brat release working for the remix So my perspective has changed a lot.”

Referring to the success of her album Brat and her struggle to navigate life after coming into the limelight, Charlie shared, “From where I’ve been so far, I’m definitely finding more than ever that my words are being thrown out, out of context.”

“I offend a lot more people by doing the exact same things.”

“Nothing groundbreaking here, but I guess because no one really cared before what I was doing on a personal day-to-day level,” he added.

THE Official The singer admitted that this experience has filled her with “empathy for older artists who go through this on a daily basis.”

“It’s hard. It’s hard to be constantly scrutinized for things you’ve said. It’s hard to have your words taken out of context and then feel like you just can’t defend yourself because that would open up a whole other can of worms.” Charlie remarked.

Moving on, he confessed that his remix Sympathy is a knife made her realize that “you really know your place.”

The 32-year-old singer also shared, “I had heard that Arie wanted to do something and I was like, this is someone who definitely knows this feeling more than I do.”

For those unaware, Charli shared this knowledge after dropping the full tracklist of her remix album on Instagram on October 7th.

It is worth mentioning that the album features singers such as Robyn & Yung Lean, BB trickz, Grande, The 1975 and Jon Hopkins, Sivan, Addison Rae, Caroline Polachek, Bladee, AG Cook, Lorde, The Japanese House, Tinashe, Julian. Casablancas, Bon Iver, Shygirl and Billie Eilish.
