The US Senate on Monday confirmed Charles Kushner’s real estate tycoon as the next US ambassador to France, despite previous felony convictions, which were deleted through presidential grace in 2020.
Kushner, his father Jared Kushner-the highest adviser and groom to President Donald Trump-was confirmed by a 51-45 vote.
Specifically, the Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey’s Kushner homeland voted in favor, while Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski in Alaska opposed the nomination.
Kushner found guilty in 2005 in 18 measurements, including tax evasion, making false statements to the federal electoral committee and witnesses.
He served in prison for two years.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who prosecuted the case, previously describes it as “one of the most absurd, disgusting criminals” of his term.
President Trump appointed Kushner after his re -election in 2024, calling the “huge business leader, charitable and representative”.
During his confirmation, Kushner recognized his criminal past, stating: “I made a very, very, very serious mistake and paid a very heavy price for this mistake.”
Critics, including Senator Patty Murray, expressed their concern about the appointment, citing Kushner’s criminal story. “Of course, I voted no,” Murray told X in front of the vote.
Kushner will also serve as an ambassador to Monaco.
His confirmation marks the 10th Embassy approved by the Senate in recent weeks.
Trump’s administration has appointed many family members and allies in key roles.
Massad Boulos, his father, Tiffany Trump, is currently serving as a senior adviser to Arab and Middle East cases, while Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is previously linked to Donald Trump Jr., is designated as an ambassador to Greece.
