LONDON:
Chelsea completed an unbeaten season and set a record in the women’s Super League with a 1-0 win in Liverpool on Saturday and Arsenal was held for a 4-3 victory over Manchester United to end the second in the rankings.
Chelsea, who sealed the sixth consecutive WSL title last month, was unable to break Liverpool’s defense by the 91st minute, when Ashley Lawrence played in Aggie Beever-Jones and international England produced an excellent shot from a row.
Chelsea records eight times champions, ended with 19 wins and three draws to win 60 points – the highest set in a WSL season. They also became the first team to go unbeaten in a 22-game WSL campaign, although Arsenal (2012), Manchester City (2016) and Chelsea (2017-18) have achieved the achievement in previous seasons with fewer games.
“We’ve just worked hard to the end, Liverpool came with a game plan and defended very well,” said Chelsea Erin Cuthbert’s Midfielder at Sky Sports in front of the club’s ways in Stamford Bridge.
“We just had to keep it, use the momentum, use the fans, and Aggie got this goal in the end, I thought their girls were running down and did the job as a substitute really easily in the second half. In the Emirates Stadium, Chloe Kelly scored in the second minute In the 13th minute, before strikes by Mariona Caldentey, Frida Maanum and Kim Little, the hosts put the hosts in the seat.
Renee Slegers’ team endured a nervous finish in the race, as Elisabeth Terland and Maya Le Tissier scored, but United could not complete the return.
Arsenal, who faces Barcelona in the Champions League final, ended the season with 48 points, four in front of third place.
