Chad Michael Murray remembers a haunting scene from One Tree Hill, in which he “begged and begged” not to be included.
Chad was reunited with his One Tree Hill actor James Lafferty for People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. When the duo were asked what was the most revealing and shocking scene they remember from the show, Lafferty, who played Nathan Scott, let his on-screen brother “take it away”.
“It was one of those scenes where I remember begging and begging and begging and begging, ‘Please, I don’t have to be there. It doesn’t have to be Lucas Scott. If you really want to do it, fine. Go ahead and write the scene, but it’s terrible,” he recalls.
THE Freaky Friday The star was referring to the hospital scene in which Lucas’ father, Dan, awaits a heart transplant in the ER. Lucas arrives at the hospital with a dog, whose leash is tied in the ER, and the person carrying the instrument trips over him, sending the heart fluttering to the floor. The dog hits it and runs away with it.
Chad recalled the scene, saying, “Anything is very possible, I guess, in the spectrum of things. If you were at home making pot brownies, like anybody does, and you fell asleep and your dog happened to get into said pot brownies and gobble up the whole tin, the first thing, of course, is you’re going to take him because you’re not going to get him. The vet wouldn’t we do it in a pet emergency.
“And of course in the ER, they’ll say, ‘Hey, you can’t bring your dog, but you know what? We will help you. We will take a look at your dog. We won’t send you to the vet. No, we’ll let the dog loose here.’ They’ll wait,” he continued, mocking the painfully creepy scene,
“Now, next, we’re obviously going to run out because we also ate some of these so-called brownies and fell asleep. Meanwhile, my dog’s leash… It’s one of those 25-foot leashes. It goes and wraps around the entire ER, and everything’s tied up. And then, of course, you’ll replace it if you feel like it. You’re not going to put it back through the loading dock [in a cooler].”
The Gilmore Girls actor went on to detail the scene, “He’s going to walk right through those doors where, actually, my dad is waiting to get the heart. He’s not in the prep room waiting. He’s not in his gown getting ready. He’s in the ER.”
“Of course, I happen to be there. And if you have a travel line in the middle of an ER, like you want, you’re going to trip. And the [cooler] it flies and the heart slides across the room. It is not in a package. It’s just sitting right there on the ice. And it glides across the room,” the Sullivan’s Crossing star added.
“Somehow, the dog got off the leash. I’m not sure how, but he did. And as I’m standing there, he picks it up, picks it up, and walks away. And I saw the whole thing, as witnessed by Dan Scott. And he knows that must have been his heart just eaten by the stoned dog that put the nipples.”
“The scene fell into disrepute,” Murray.
