  • The agreement aims to increase bilateral trade by an additional £ 25.5 billion.
  • Will be The United Kingdom’s largest agreement from leaving the EU.
  • Both sides for the strategic cooperation of Melanis for defense, climate.

London/New Delhi: Britain and India are expected to sign a free landmark agreement on Thursday during a visit by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sealing an agreement to reduce invoices in textile and whiskey products.

The two countries have completed talks on the long -standing free trade pact in May after three years of startup negotiations, with both sides accelerating efforts to reach an agreement in the shadow of pricing turmoil caused by US President Donald Trump.

The agreement between the world and the sixth largest economy in the world aims to raise bilateral trade by about 25.5 billion pounds ($ 34 billion) by 2040, will enter into force after the approval of the British Parliament and the Federal Council of Ministers.

“The landlord with India is an important victory for Britain, it will create thousands of British jobs across the United Kingdom, unlock new business opportunities and lead growth,” said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The agreement will be signed during Modi’s fourth visit to the United Kingdom since he took office in 2014. Leaders will also sign a strategic partnership that will cover areas such as defense and climate and enhance the crime cooperation.

According to the trade agreement, tariffs for Scotch Whiskey will be reduced to 75% from 150% immediately and then transferred to 40% over the next decade, according to the British government. In cars, India will reduce duties to 10% from over 100% based on a gradually liberated quota system.

In return, Indian manufacturers are expected to gain access to the UK market for electric and hybrid vehicles, also under a quota system, officials from the Ministry of Indian Trade said.

The ministry said that 99% of Indian exports to Britain would benefit from zero duties under the agreement, including textile products, while Britain will see reductions in 90% of its pricing lines.

The agreement represents Britain’s most important trade agreement since leaving the EU in 2020, although the projected impulse in British economic production of £ 4.8 billion annually by 2040 is small compared to the country’s gross domestic product of £ 2.6.

The agreement will also facilitate easier access to temporary business visitors, although the visas are not covered. Britain and India have also agreed to ensure that workers should no longer make social security contributions to both India and Britain during temporary publications in the other country.

According to the trade agreement, British companies will be able to access India’s supplies for projects in areas such as net energy and also covers sectors of services such as insurance.

India has not succeeded in getting rid of the British carbon -border adaptation mechanism (CBAM) – which could impose higher taxes on pollutants since 2027 – under the agreement.

The two sides have also not completed the talks on a separate bilateral investment treaty, which were held alongside the trade negotiations, but continue to continue.
