Researchers have found that a small vaccine, currently located in its early test, can mobilize the immune system to fight advanced kidney cancers.

The research team, led by Dr. David Braun of the Yale Cancer Center, said the “personalized cancer vaccines” used by nine patients in the test target genes specifically for their tumors Up.

These vaccines prompted the patient’s immune system to seek and destroy the stray cancer cells left behind after tumor removal surgery.

“The idea behind this test was to specifically direct the immune system to a target target for the volume,” Braun said.

“We want to improve treatment options after surgery that reduces the risk of cancer returning,” he added in a Yale press release.

The study and findings were published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.

The experiment was entirely focused on patients with advanced cell cell carcinoma 3 or 4.

Yale’s group explained that there are already centered treatments against the immune system against cancer cells, but are not done to target the DNA of specific types of tumors.

The PCVs used in the new experiment were made to target gene mutations that were common to CCRCC tumors – this type of tumors make up about 80% of all kidney cancers.

The new test in nine patients was conducted only to see if PCV as immunotherapy was safe for patients.

Five of the nine patients were treated with PCV plus the ipilimumab of the immunotherapy drug after undergoing surgery, while the other four received PCV treatments only after their surgery.

And the nine patients showed elevated levels of T cells that began within three weeks of treatment and lasted for years later, the researchers said.

In addition, T cells were also able to effectively identify specific tumor cells in seven of the patients.

Patients did not complain about side effects except for certain flu symptoms that showed one or two days after the vaccine was administered.
