Wellington: Michael Bracewell will be the Captain of New Zealand for the first time in the home ground when they meet Pakistan in a series of five T20 games, leading a team called Tuesday missing several key players due to the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Bracewell starred as Black Caps reached the Trophy Champions final and is one of the seven players from that one -day team selected for the T20S.
But there are not many top names available due to IPL commitments, including normal governor Mitchell Santner, along with Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips.
Kane Williamson made himself unavailable for the series, which begins on Sunday at Christchurch.
“It is a great honor and a real privilege to capture your country,” said Bracewell, who led their side to their Pakistani tour last year, but has not yet taken the reins at home.
“Mitch Santner has done a great job since he was taking over as a white ball captain and I will really try to build his good work and create a pleasant environment for the kids to execute.
“Pakistan is always a dangerous side of a small form with a lot of power and rhythm and we know they will be hurt after an early exit to Trophy Champions,” he added.
The rotating ish Sodhi was recalled while Paceman Ben Sears returns after recovery from a torn hamstring.
Finn Allen, Jimmy Neesham and Tim Seifert were also included as both teams are starting to build up to the next year’s T20 World Cup in India.
Team of New Zealand: Michael Bracewell (CAPT), Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes (Games 4 and 5 only), Mitch Hay, Matt Henry (only 4 and 5), Kyle Jamieson (Games 1, 2 and 3) Sodhi.
